Just back from a pretty sick day at Cairngorm Mountain yesterday for the Scottish Championships. Due to a few delays I ended up getting up the mountain pretty late but I still managed to squeeze in three practice runs which I managed to get a BS 7 to FS 7 on the jump line so I was stoked! When it came to qualifiers it was two runs, best run counts. The weather came in a bit and it was pretty hard to see the lip of the jump so I played it safe with a BS 3 to FS 3 on my first run and then I went for the BS 7 to FS but sadly reverted on the landing of the frontside 7.
Luckily my first run was enough to get me into the final so I went up to get a bit more practice down on the jump. In practice I managed to up my run to a cab 9 to FS 7 so I was feeling really good going into the finals. On my first run I went for the back 7 but when I went to do a set-up carve for the FS 7 my edge got caught in the slush so I had to bail out. The standard had been pretty high all day so I knew it was pretty much all or nothing going into my second run so I decided to try the cab 9. I got all my rails down clean but I must have put in one too many speed checks as I ended up knuckling and reverting on the landing. I still finished the run and did a switch BS 5 on the second jump but I was still pretty gutted not to land the cab 9 😦
It was still an amazing day which had by far the best set-up and highest standard of any Scottish champs I’ve ever ridden at! My little brother Chris rode pretty well all day and landed a switch 7 to switch un-natural 5 to get him 1st overall in the ski category so I’m really stoked for him! Hopefully they keep the set-up out for a few more weeks so I can get up and get riding some good snow jumps on home turf!
